More then any other material of construction, concrete depends for its performance on the skill and understanding of the man on the job. Since this applies particularly to reinforced concrete construction, it will be a matter of great interest to all contractors a now handbook entitled "CRSI Recommended Practice for Placeing Reinforcing Bars." The book was prepared under the direction of the Engineering Proactive Committee of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute by R. C. Reese. The book answers hundreds of questions. Some examples are: how many standard sizes of reinforcing bars are now being rolled; what are stirrups and why are they used; why are column spirals used and related issues.

This book contains the most current information for safety and compliance in California’s construction industry.

The California Building Code (CBC) contains general building design and construction requirements relating to fire and life safety, structural safety, and access compliance. CBC provisions provide minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures and certain equipment. Matrix Adoption tables are provided at beginning of every chapter in Part 2 to indicate what chapters and sections are adopted by state agencies (for application to their respective occupancies).

The 28th edition of the Manual of Standard Practice is now available on CD-ROM in combination with the hardcover edition. This resource contains information on recommended industry practices for estimating, detailing, fabricating, and placing reinforcing steel for reinforced concrete construction. The Manual of Standard Practice has provided the industry standards for reinforced concrete construction since 1927. This resource includes suggested specifications for reinforcing steel in Chapter 4. Chapter 3 on bar supports is commonly referenced in project specifications. New material in the manual includes a list of specific information on structural drawings that is required by the ACI 318 Building Code and updated illustrations of the markings on Grade 60 and Grade 75 reinforcing bars.
